Fexdega (an acronym for fairs, exhibitions, for the development of Galicia) , a pioneer centre in hosting multisector exhibitions in Galicia, was founded in 1967. In 2001, the organization opened its new headquarters in A Maroma. Every year, the centre hosts a wide range of exhibitions or events specialized in different areas such as: cars, recreation activities for children, food, sailing, home, shop sales, and so on as well as national and international cultural and sports events.
This contest aims to praise this flower, an identifiable emblem of the Rías Baixas, which is hosted in turns in Vilagarcía, Pontevedra and Vigo usually in March. Flower growers from all over Galicia, and especially from Rías Baixas participate in the competition. Some other activities are also carried out at the same time, such as a photo exhibition and contest focused on the camellia, guided tours to the pazo of Rubiáns or fashion shows.
It Consists of a set of concerts held in the morning, and performed by small musical groups and addressed to those who want to enjoy live music with friends and family. They take place one Sunday a month in the months of February, March and April in the Salón García. Tickets are affordable.
This International Festival of Clasical Music not only brings together a great group of international artists but they also become masters for some carefully selected pupils coming from different countries. The concerts take place the last week of June and the first week of July in the Auditorium, the Salón García and some other significant venues such as the pazos of A Golpelleira and Rubiáns and the historic monumental buildings of Vistalegre.
This International Festival of Music transforms Vilagarcía into the Galician capital of blues in July. The concerts, which are all free and bring together a big number of internationally awarded musicians, are complemented with some other activities such as jam sessions, master classes and even a romería – an informal and traditional gathering organized in a park or green area. Thus, Vilablues becomes a extraordinary experience for the enthusiast of this musical genre.
The Tapas Fair, organized by the Hospitality Association, is an event not to be missed for those who want to enjoy the most creative gastronomy in the city. It takes place in Miguel Hernandez park in September. The set price which is charged allows the visitor to taste a tempting variety of tapas alongside musical concerts, cooking shows and activities aimed at the little ones.
The Independent Wine Fair in Vilagarcía is held in November and it is addressed both to professionals of this sector and private individuals. It is the best meeting place for viticulturists, wine producers and all those who enjoy wine. Over 40 small wineries take part in this event. A “wine tunnel” allows visitors to taste different wines from Galicia, Spain and several European countries as if they had actually travelled to there.
The Ágora Vermú was born with the idea of recovering last century’s tradition of Sunday morning concerts performed in the streets by the Brass Band. This musical event resulting from the idea of maintaining this tradition and renewing it with some other musical groups and styles, can be enjoyed in different pedestrianized streets and squares of the city whilst having an aperitif during the months of May and June.
