The year has 50 weeks and Vilagarcía organizes 43 events. This means almost one a week. There are all kinds of events: festive, cinematographic, artistic, gastronomic, folk, sports. Some of them are international, and others are traditions that have been carried out for decades. Therefore, no matter when you visit Vilagarcía, you are likely to coincide with some of these events, which will not disappoint you. The thing is that we are open all year round. And, of course, we are looking forward to you becoming one of us.
Born in 1973 in the Casino, a local social club, with the name of Festival de Cine Aficionado de Vilagarcía – the Vilagarcían amateur film festival – and today converted into Festival Internacional de Cine e Banda Diseñada- international film and comic festival. The Curtas Fest is the oldest film event in Galicia and one of the most important in Spain. Long films, retrospectives, shortfilms and homages constitute the most important film activities, to which some other activities are added: exhibitions by the most importat comic artists, signing sessions, talks, role games, board games and workshops to transform Vilagarcía into the film capital of Galicia during 10 days in October.
Organized by the A Cantarela Mycological Association, this is an excellent opportunity to get to know mushrooms, a product that is not widely used in Galicia in spite of the mycological richness of our forests. It takes place in the second fortnight of November in two different venues: the Plaza de la Pescadería and the Culture House or Auditorium. Exhibitions, conferences , a culinary competition and mycological tours are some of the activities that are completed with the tasting of dishes whose main ingredient is mushrooms, at affordable prices. It is held the second Sunday in November.
The Independent Wine Fair in Vilagarcía is held in November and is addressed to both professionals of this sector and private individuals. It is the best meeting place for viticulturists, wine producers and all those who enjoy wine. Over 40 small wineries take part in this event. A “wine tunnel” allows the visitors to taste different wines from Galicia, Spain and several European countries as if they had actually travelled to there.
