This route reproduces the itinerary carried out by Fray Martín Sarmiento in 1745 in his way to Santiago to receive the indulgence of the Jubilee of Compostela. It consists of a 170-km route which goes alongside the southern coast of the Ria of Arousa, gets into the river Ulla up to Padrón where it continues to Santiago de Compostela.
This route consists of 9 legs, leg number 7 being the one which goes through Vilagarcía de Arousa. It starts on As Sinas beach, in the council of Vilanova de Arousa, and reaches the fishing port of Vilaxoán which deals basically with extraction and processing of mussels. After passing the port of Vilagarcía, the Enrique Valdés Bermejo botanic garden welcomes the traveler with centenary tree species coming from the different continents and next to it, the Castro of Alobre shows the origin of the city.
A staircase leads strightaway to historic-artistic monument buildings of Vistalegre consisting of a pazo, a church and a convent.
The route continues along Castelao street, Plaza de Galicia and Rey Daviña street, a completely pedestrianized layout leading to the yachting harbour and, from there, to Compostela beach along the seafront promenade.
At the end of the promenade it is Carril, a fishing village from which we can admire the clam farms and the Cortegada Island.
