The Green Railway Route was created after the modernization of the old railway tracks in 1899 between Vilagarcía and Pontevedra. Nowadays under construction (March 2019), it will be the first route to go entirely along the Galician territory and it will form part of the Network which the Fundación de Ferrocarriles Españoles – the Spanish railway foundation-  has created all around Spain.

This 9-km pedestrian and cycling path combines a beautiful landscape with  rich culture and history.  The itinerary passes through Vilagarcía, Caldas de Reyes and Portas and is scattered with charming corners or significant constructions such as the pazo of Rubiáns, the 19th century metallic bridge over the river Umia or an old sugar factory dating from the beginning of the 20th century which has turned into a cultural centre.
